The temple, home to a magnificent idol of Lord Ganesha, affectionately referred to as "Big Ganapathi," radiates a unique warmth. As you enter, the air is filled with a sense of peace and reverence, drawing you into a world where faith intertwines with tradition. The sheer grandeur of the idol is awe inspiring, and the atmosphere is adorned with the sincere prayers of devotees. A beautiful divine temple where calm and peaceful vibes can be felt within moments. It's a magical blend of traditional and modern architecture. The devotees must take out two hours to observe all the temples and murtis (idols) in same complex. Observe them very closely to appreciate the details and the story it tells. Ask the priest about the various postures of Lord Ganesha, they are very informative and helpful. One can contribute to the food distribution which happens on a regular basis at the temple. Dodda Nandi Big Bull is another unique attraction here and a must visit. Its a small city of temples in itself. Have a blissful visit.πŸ™πŸŒžπŸŒΌπŸ˜Š

Huge and unique ganapathi idol. It is said that this temple was built as people around it used to worship a boulder that was shaped like lord ganapati. The murti is made up of a single stone. The temple remains crowded throughout - during Ganesh Chaturthi, local people were saying that this temple hosts a grand procession.

One of the best and must visit temples in Bangalore. The idol is made up of a big monolith stone which is mesmerising. The statue measuring 18 feet by 16 feet. The origin of temple is believed to be existing from Kempa Gowda days. The temple was officially built in 1971 and the Shakthi Ganpathi residing within its walls has blessed thousands with good fortune. The temple is truly a marvel piece and it is a just walk in dharsan and no big Q in normal days. The car parking is side of the road and it will be tough to find a place if any marriage happens in a mantapam opposite to the temple.

We visited this Temple in 2023 january. Dodda ganpati temple is located in Basavanagudi, area of South Bengaluru. One of the oldest ganesha temples. Dodda Ganapathi is a sacred worshipping place for Lord ganesha. It is said that you will get whatever your heart desires here. (Collected History) πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ» The temple, is over 500 years old, dating back to Kempe Gowda. It was a boulder like many others found in this locality. It was shaped like a Ganesha. So people started worshipping it. The monolithic swayambhu (self-manifested) structure is 18 feet in height and 16 feet in width. The government took it up in the early 1970s. The temple is located inside the Bugle Rock park, adjoining the Dodda Basavana Gudi, which has the biggest Nandi statue in the world. The Basavanagudi area derives its name from the temple, built by the medieval chieftain to house the Basava. Administrative officers at the temple say that the Ganesha shrine was built by the chieftain who established Bengaluru in 1537. On the other hand, historians that while the deity in stone might have existed during the Kempe Gowda period, the temple structure itself could date back to 19th century. "Historically, the area's famous kadalekai parishe (annual groundnut fair) is said to have existed 500 years ago. But logically, it was the British who brought groundnuts to India. So it cannot have been older than the Cantonment in Bengaluru, which is the 19th century, " said historian Arun Prasad. "The temple structure too, could be dated back to that time. " The Ganesha shrine does not stand out in terms of architecture. The landscape in which it is located, however, does. Before modern developments, the area was filled with huge rocks and boulders. These had hollow markings where lamps were lit during festivities. If one looks closely, these small hollows can still be found. Interestingly, the temple premises also played a significant role during the Third Anglo Mysore War of 1791 between Tipu Sultan and the British. According to Prasad, under the leadership of commander Khammar-ud-din, the Mysore army laid out its strategy in the temple premises before launching attacks on the British army. Very peaceful place. Must visit. Thank you πŸ™‚
